BE-4025 N. peltata – assorted clones

Nepenthes peltata is endemic to Mindanao in the Philippines, where it grows at altitudes ranging from about 800 – 1,600m making it a temperature tolerant intermediate grower. As the name implies, the tendril insertion into the leaf is peltate, emerging before the tip of the leaf. It’s quite variable in form but is always colorful and often has leaves with a red underside. Pitchers can become quite large.

Nepenthes peltata was first introduced in early 2017 as a single clone under BE-3464. This item differs from BE-3464 in that it’s a random selection from a large number of clones, and it replaces BE-3464, which is now discontinued. Offering a range of different clones is important for conservation, as well as being much more fun to grow out, since it’s likely that no two plants will be quite the same.

The pitcher form and leaf attachment seem somewhat variable as can be seen from the photos, all clones sold under this item match the species description. A few of the mature plants we have that the glands beneath the lid sometimes exude a thick white nectar and this is shown on the last two photos in the series. It’s not as prolific an exudate as on N. lowii or N. ephippiata, but it’s still unusually dense.

The photos shown here are representative and may not be identical to plants shipped.
