BE-3681 N. ampullaria ‘Brunei red’ – best selected clone
This classic swamp-dwelling species is one of the few that will develop basal rosettes when larger, giving the appearance of a carpet of pitchers with few or no leaves. It grows easily in acidic media with high temperatures and humidity.
History: First introduced in March 2006.
First introduced: March 2006
Origin: Horticultural, bred by Borneo Exotics.
The female parent is the ‘Williams Red’ form of the species, which remains the deepest and purest red form we have ever seen and used to be sold as rooted cuttings under the code ‘CR-1’.
The male parent is a selected clone of N. ampullaria ‘Harlequin’ that used to be sold as rooted cuttings under CR-48. This particular clone was selected from a large number of candidate clones for its excellent coloration.
It was originally named as N. ampullaria ‘Harlequin’ from the appearance of photos taken in about 2006. However, from what we can now see, the darker red flecks on the pitcher body that give rise to the description ‘Harlequin’ seem to be absent.
It has therefore been renamed to N. ampullaria ‘Brunei Red’

Photo notes: Plants shipped are of the same clone as shown in these photos.
